Caring for your bespoke leather and suede furniture

Caring for your bespoke leather and suede furnitureLike all upholstery, leather can be affected by exposure to the sun. If possible, reposition your leather furniture from time to time to ensure that it fades evenly. Closing curtains or blinds during the sunniest periods can help but, despite this, most leather furniture will develop a natural patina over time.

Regular dusting of your leather furniture should keep it in good condition under normal circumstances. Use a cloth dampened with warm water to gently rub areas that suffer heavier wear, for example, head and arm rests.

If you suffer any minor, non greasy spillages, wipe up any excess liquid immediately with a clean absorbent cloth or sponge and then allow the leather to air dry. If the stain persists you could try a water based leather furniture cleaner – this should avoid stretching the leather and help prevent colour variation.

For butter or grease stains, do not apply water. Blot the excess spillage with a clean, dry cloth and wait to see if the mark dissipates into the leather overnight. If not, apply specialist leather furniture cleaner.

Your leather furniture may benefit from a quarterly application of a specialist leather conditioner. As with all proprietary products, test them in an unobtrusive area first.

Use the soft furnishings attachment and low suction when vacuuming your fabric or suede dining chairs. Alternatively use a soft brush to remove traces of dust. If your dining chairs are covered in leather, give them a wipe over with a damp cotton cloth. Avoid harsh detergents.
