Things to consider when commissioning bespoke dining room furniture

Things to consider when commissioning bespoke dining room furnitureCommissioning bespoke dining room furniture can be a big investment so you will want your choice to be suitable for many years. Whether you want traditional or contemporary tables and chairs, in wood, metal or glass, aspirationalfurniture.co.uk will have a manufacturer to suit you.

Before finalising your design there are a number of things to consider including the size of the space available and whether you will use the table and chairs for casual or elegant dining.

The first and most important issue is size. As a general guide, you should allow 1.2m from the edge of the dining table to the wall of the room. Additionally, each person sitting at the dining table should be at least 60cm from each other. When considering size, remember that you may have more guests on special occasions. One way to cater for this, with, say, oak dining furniture, is to have 2 extension leaves that can be added to increase the table area and add 4 additional place settings. Make sure you take account of these so that you don’t end up with dining room furniture that is too large for your room when fully extended. Also ensure that there is adequate space for dining chairs to be pushed in and out comfortably and for curtains to be drawn, if necessary.

For circular dining tables you will need a table of at least 1.2m diameter to seat 6 people comfortably, and 1.5m for 8 people.

You may like to make a scale drawing of your room and consider all of the dining room furniture you plan to include in it to make sure there is sufficient space.

Consider how you will use your new dining room furniture. Will it be for occasional, elegant dining or for every day family use? Will it need to serve other purposes outside meal times, for example, double up as a desk space? Taking account of these factors will help you to decide on the style of dining room furniture that will be most suitable.

If you have wooden floors or your furniture is not on the ground floor, make sure that your dining table and chairs are not too heavy.

If you have children or pets, you may prefer a durable wooden or metal dining table and chairs. Similarly, leather chair upholstery may be more practical than a pale fabric if you have small children.
