Glass furniture offers a timeless elegance and can be particularly useful in small living or dining rooms because the transparency keeps the area light. Glass is often combined with wood, metal or chrome although some bespoke glass furniture makers will offer UV bonding to construct a piece with a virtually seamless finish.Especially for use as a glass table top, the material will usually be toughened. Ask your furniture maker to show you examples of polished edges and bevelled edges so that you can select the finish you prefer. Additionally, there is often a choice of clear or opaque finishes.
Glass is a practical surface as it will rarely mark, although it can scratch and chip at the edges (see ‘How to care for your glass furniture’).
Glass is often a preferred material for commercial furniture projects such as reception desks or office dividers as it is easy to keep clean and provides a light, spacious, ‘open plan’ environment whilst still affording privacy.
