Hot off the press... The creation of aspirationalfurniture.co.uk
Having been an avid collector of Limoges boxes for many years (Limoges boxes are small hand painted pill boxes from the Limousin region of France) we needed not only to display them but to keep them dust free.
The solution was to have a display cabinet but our problem was that nothing from the mass produced, high street offerings would either fit in the space or do justice to the collection. So, we decided to design something ourselves and have it custom made. Like most pieces of furniture, it needed to be both attractive and functional; the top section serves as the display case for the boxes and underneath there are several draws that are sized exactly to take CD's and DVD's.
The next issue was who to choose to craft such an item. For several months we made little progress as we were unable to find the right craftsman on the internet. A chance visit to a craft fair found Jeff and the project was born. We worked closely with Jeff to finalise the design and choose from a range of accessories for the door handles and finishes. The result was a unique piece of furniture which fitted perfectly into our home.
We expect this handmade item will become an heirloom to be handed down through our family together with the porcelain collection - an antique of the future. Making the right choice of designer and craftsman is critical if the final result is to fully meet your expectations and desires, not just for now but long into the future.
Following our problems of finding a handmade furniture specialist and having discovered that many of our friends had had similar experiences, we decided to create aspirationalfurniture.co.uk on which we intend to list all bespoke and limited edition furniture manufacturers within the UK.
aspirationalfurniture.co.uk will bring together a UK wide choice of skilled furnituremakers who work in various materials. It will promote ideas and give down to earth advice to a consumer base which hopefully will be willing to take the plunge by creating a unique bespoke solution to a furniture need.
